An insulated panel envelope for a cold storage facility.

A cold room is only as good as its envelope. The insulated panels that form the walls, ceiling and floor decide how steadily the room holds temperature and how hard the refrigeration has to work. Rinac has built cold room envelopes for dairies, food plants, pharma stores and FMCG warehouses across India, using the same panels it manufactures in-house.

For cold storage, the complete envelope matters: core, thickness, facing, joints, vapour sealing, floor interface and installation quality. RINAC engineers select the system against the target temperature, ambient conditions, room duty and required fire documentation.

Engineering Selection

Cold-room panel submittal requirements

Cold-room values must be tied to the selected RINAC product and the complete room design.

Selection itemWhat the project submittal should confirm
Core and fire performanceExact RPUF, PIR or named FM-approved system with the applicable test certificate
Panel thicknessThermal calculation based on target temperature, ambient design condition and duty cycle
FacingMetal substrate, coating, colour, hygiene requirement and environmental suitability
Joint and vapour sealPanel joint, sealant, penetrations, corners and floor/ceiling interfaces
Structural selectionSpan, support spacing, ceiling load, pressure differential and installation detail
Doors and refrigeration interfacesOpenings, thermal bridges, drainage, service penetrations and commissioning responsibility

RINAC supplies complete cold-room solutions as well as insulated-panel systems. Request one coordinated project submittal.

Choosing Panel Thickness

Matching the panel to the temperature

There is no single correct thickness. Chilled rooms holding produce and dairy near 0 to 4°C typically use thinner cores than a blast-freeze store running well below zero, where thicker panels reduce heat ingress and protect running costs. Floor loading, room size and ambient conditions also feed the choice. Rather than guess, Rinac sizes the envelope from your temperature target and duty cycle. For background on specifying a room, the cold room buyer’s guide and the cold storage warehouse guide are useful starting points.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are cold room panels made of?
Cold room panels are insulated sandwich panels: an RPUF, PIR or FM-approved PIR foam core bonded between metal facings. The core resists heat flow and the facings give a strong, hygienic, corrosion-resistant surface. RINAC supplies these panel-system options and confirms the exact construction in the project submittal.
What thickness of panel does a cold room need?
Thickness depends on the target temperature, ambient condition, room size, duty cycle, span and complete envelope design. RINAC engineering should confirm the thermal selection and current product data for the project.
What temperature range can Rinac cold room panels handle?
Cold-room panels are selected for a defined project temperature; there is no single universal range for every RINAC system. Provide the target temperature, ambient condition and duty cycle so the engineering team can confirm the complete envelope and current product data.
Which panel core is best for a cold room?
Core selection depends on thermal duty, fire and insurer requirements, hygiene, facing and budget. RPUF, PIR and named FM-approved assemblies are different specification routes; the exact system and certificate should be confirmed for the project.
Does Rinac build complete cold rooms, not just panels?
Yes. Rinac is a cold chain solution architect and builder, delivering the full room from panels and refrigeration through installation and after-sales service. See cold rooms or the cold chain solutions overview.

Engineering Evidence

Product data and project submittals

Use RINAC product literature for preliminary selection. Before tender or construction, request the current project-specific data sheet, test certificate and approved assembly.

Technical values apply only to the identified RINAC product and tested assembly. Confirm the exact core, facing, thickness, joint, test standard and certificate for each project.
